Rehearsal Reminders

Great first day of rehearsal!!

It is strange having camp at the school, but the students are
rising to the challenge and doing great work!

A few notes for the next few days:

-Remember sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses! We are doing
our best to keep everyone in the shade and/or rotating to
different activities with different exertion levels, but these
items will help keep you cool.

-We do have more water if anyone runs out.  See Mrs. Snyder

-HYDRATE! - When you read this email hydrate and start getting
ready for tomorrow

-EAT! - Eat a healthy light breakfast in the morning.

-Get a good nights sleep! - your body needs this to help recover
from being in the sun all day.

GAME: We are planning a game of Family Feud for later in the
week and we need all students to take this survey:

Get some rest, and come energized for rehearsal on Wednesday!
Nice Job everyone!

Music

Tomorrow at rehearsal we will have print copies of your music for you.
Until then I am including a link so you can download it. Section Leaders
will be assigning parts on Tuesday if your section has multiple parts
(trumpet 1 and 2 for example)

Percussion parts will be uploaded shortly to the same link.

Weather Update - Important!

The bad news: Due to the potential for thunderstorms for most of the morning
and afternoon we will NOT have Marching Band on Monday, July 27.

The good news: Your student leadership team met today and are organized,
pumped and ready to get us off to a great start on Tuesday!  Also, it will be
cooler and less humid!

Students please check your email throughout the day on Monday for more
music to be sent to you.  Please take some time to practice as well!  The better
prepared you are individually, the more success we can have as a group!

Can't wait to see you all on Tuesday,

Band Camp Update 7/26

We are excited that it is Band Camp week!  Here are some important
updates and reminders!

Schedule for the week:
Continue to arrive 15 minutes early for  health checks

Sun 7/26 - Leadership Team Only - 3pm-6pm (meet at practice lot)
Mon 7/27 - 9am-5pm - Full Band
Tue 7/28 - 9am-5pm - Full Band
Wed 7/29 - 9am -5pm - Full Band
Thu 7/30 - 9am - 5pm - Full Band
Fri 7/31 - 9am - 12pm - Full Band

Our student leadership team is going to proof-read the daily rotation
today and make sure they understand the logistics of moving their
section from one location to another during our rehearsals.  We will
email it this evening once leaders go over it.

Check-In Locations:
Brass and Percussion - Practice field (same location as pre-camp)
Woodwinds and Colorguard - Gate by band room (between north
and south campus)

Lunch:
Please remember to bring your own lunch.  It is imperative that each
student eats healthy meals and stays hydrated.

Weather:
Because we cannot bring students into the building we are dependent
on good weather to rehearse.  As of now, the forecast for Monday does
not look good!  We will make a decision by 8:30pm each night if rehearsal
for the next day needs to be cancelled or adjusted for the next day.
We will send this notice out by email, remind, and our section leaders
will connect with their section members to make sure everyone gets the
message.

Items to Bring:

Instrument/Supplies
Water - (or two or three, remember at this point we won’t have refills)
Lunch
SUNSCREEN!
Pencil (mechanical pencil is prefered)
Hand Sanitizer (we will have some, but it may be easier to bring your own)
Wear SHOES (NO sandals, flip flops, etc.)

No Parent Meeting Tonight

There is NOT a parent meeting this evening.

Sorry about the confusion, in the process of changing all
of the documents I must have missed it.  Thanks to those
who pointed it out.

Band Camp Week Schedule Update

Our schedule for camp week is coming together.  Not being at Lincoln Lake
along with all of the various restrictions we face has made trying to piece
together all of the usual elements a bit complicated, but we are almost there!

Schedule for the week:
Sun 7/26 - Leadership Team Only - 3pm-6pm
Mon 7/27 - 9am-5pm - Full Band
Tue 7/28 - 9am-5pm - Full Band
Wed 7/29 - 9am -5pm - Full Band
Thu 7/30 - 9am - 5pm - Full Band
Fri 7/31 - 9am - 12pm - Full Band

Sections will check in at different locations and there will be a rotation of
music sectionals, fundamentals, drill, fun activities, etc, so that we stay
under the 100 person outdoor gathering limit in one location. Details about
check-in locations, and a detailed schedule for each section are being
finalized and will be sent shortly.

Food:
Please bring your own, healthy, lunch.  If this is an issue for your family
please let us know and we will make sure everyone eats.  Pending
approval we are working on a few fun, safe, food things as well.

Meds, Health, Nurse:
Mrs. Snyder will be with us  throughout the day to help with any health
needs that come up. For those that don’t know her, she has been our
wonderful camp nurse for many years and does a great job!

Weather:
I am sure it is going to be sunny and cool all week, but if it isn’t we will
keep you informed via email and remind.

More details soon, but I wanted to make sure everyone had the daily
schedule as soon as I was able to get it to you.

Thanks again for your patience!

Rehearsal Update Wednesday July 22

Looking at the radar as of now it looks like we have a strong chance of
rain and a possible isolated thunderstorm, particularly in the 10am-12 timeframe.
Because of this rehearsal for Today, Wednesday July 22, is Cancelled.

Music for the opener of the show was emailed last night, and more will be
sent this morning.  Students please review this music and spend time
practicing the part.

For future reference: Generally light rain isn’t something that we will cancel
rehearsal for, so it is a good idea to have a light jacket/hat etc to keep yourself
dry if we end up in a rain shower during rehearsal. Not being able to go into
the building certainty complicates things especially with paper music and
instruments that as a general rule we would like to keep dry.

See you all Thursday!

Crazy in Love Music

Click here to access the music for “Crazy in Love”

The parts have been edited so that what you see is what you play.
We will go over them in rehearsal and can answer any questions you have then.

Pre-Camp Maps and Arrival Instructions, etc

Happy Rainy Sunday!  We are looking forward to having students safely
return to rehearsal and have a great experience.  This email contains
information about your procedure for drop-off and pick-up. Thanks for
your patience and understanding as we all learn new processes!

Masks will be worn at all times except when playing and when we are
safely socially distanced doing physical activity in our spaces on the field

Brass/Percussion: 9am-10:30am
Woodwinds/Colorguard: 11:00am-12:30pm

Arrival:
-Get dropped off at practice parking lot (location shown on map)
parents stay in car.
-Wear your mask and go to cart on the 50 yard line of our practice field.
-Your temp will be taken and we will ask several questions
(Some students ride bikes or walk to rehearsal.  If you do this please arrive
early so you have time to cool down before we try to take your temp).
-Section Leaders will guide you to a location on the field which is
already marked out in a more than socially distanced grid. (advantage
to marching band: even in a normal year we teach you how to stay
way from each other).
-Keep your water and any equipment you bring with you in this spot.
-Parents can park in the parking lot (map) next to the practice field if
they are waiting.

Pick-Up:
-Parents please park in the parking lot by the practice lot.
-Students will be dismissed by yard line and go straight to your car. Please be on time.
-Students who drive please go straight to your car.

Other Important Information: (i.e. pretty much the only part of this I can
copy/paste from last year)
-Eat a light healthy breakfast (this is physical activity, so you will need it)
-HYDRATE- Every student is required to have their own water jug with the
name on it. (due to regulations we will not be able to provide a common
source of water)
-Wear tennis shoes (no sandals or flip flops)
-Wear light, loose fitting athletic type clothes. Remember this is a physical
activity, and that Mr. Wellfare is the only winner in the fashion contest.
So don’t try too hard.
-YES, you will need your instrument.  We will be assigning school
instruments during the first few days of pre-camp, so don’t worry if
you don’t have one yet.

Pre-Camp Information

This year we have many new policies and procedures that we are required to follow.
At this point we cannot have more than 100 students gathered for outdoor events.
As such, pre-camp rehearsals will be broken into the following smaller groups and times.

Brass and Percussion: 9:00am-10:30am
Woodwinds and Colorguard: 11:00-12:30

Please Arrive 15 minutes prior to rehearsal start time so we can take your temperature
and ask you several questions. I will send a map of exactly where you will need to get
dropped off and where you will need to go shortly.

If there is inclement weather we will need to cancel rehearsal for the day, as students
are not yet allowed into the buildings.

the CCS Administration and follow current CDC, MHSAA, UIL, and State of Michigan
guidelines.  It is important the EVERYONE (parents and students) read this document
and understand it’s contents

A few highlights: (but please still click the above link and read)
-Students must wear a mask at all times prior to and after rehearsals
-Students must wear masks during rehearsals when they are not playing their instruments,
involved in high intensity movement, or cannot be socially distanced.
-Students must bring a Large FULL water bottle with their name on it.  We are not allowed
to provide sources of common food or water.  Water bottles are required of every student.
-Students must remain socially distanced (6ft)
-There is to be no shared equipment.

We know this is a lot of information.  We also know that Band students are the most intelligent
students in our school, and will be able to handle all of this with ease.  We will make it as easy
as we can for you, I promise!

This is new for all of us. With information that will be changing on a regular basis we ask for your
continued patience and understanding as we work together to make this a great Marching Band
season!

MarchingBand: Leadership Team Announcement

We are proud to announce our 2020-21 Fighting Scots Marching
Band Leadership Team.  Band students are always the best, and
you never make decisions like this easy.

As you well know, the end of last year and most certainly this
coming school year, are going to be unique in many ways.
Due to this, we foresee many more opportunities for leadership
within our band program.

Please know that if you applied, but you do not see your name
on this list, you WILL be utilized this season.  Mr. Wellfare and
the Drum Majors will talk to individuals as we get things rolling
in the coming weeks.

Thank you to everyone who applied!

Click here to see the results.

Show Announcements

We are excited to announce our 2020-21 halftime show and know that
you are going to LOVE it!

We know you will LOVE it because the theme is LOVE

We look forward to presenting the music of Beyonce, Queen, Led Zeppelin
and Joan Jett in a fast paced, fun and entertaining show that you are going
to LOVE learning and our audience will LOVE hearing!

Look for a link to download the music in your email later this week.  The music
by the above artists includes arrangements of “Crazy in Love”, "Crazy Little Thing
Called Love", "Whole Lotta Love", and "I Love Rock and Roll!"

Looking forward to seeing everyone soon!

Communication Remind

Please make sure you sign-up for our remind text messages.
We won’t over message you, but it is important that we have an
efficient fast way to communicate with students and parents.  This
will be especially important this year when things are changing often.

Due to the number of families involved in the Marching Band we
have two Remind groups, one for parents, and one for students.
(Both will get the same messages, our free account limits group
sizes so I had to split it up in this way)
